After installation: creating a new Space

After completing the installation, the user sees this:

Even I, as an experienced Anytype user, was confused for 10 seconds.
A very new user will need much longer. It's not clear for him what he must do next.

  1. After a fresh installation, it is clear that there is no Space to chose.
The App know that well -- why does it suggest in the middle of the screen to chose an existing one?
    There is nothing to chose!
  2. The text "... or create a space" should better explain the "how".
A new user may first look into the main menu on top, but there is nothing related.
Then he looks in the left side menu and sees there the entry "Space". But, unfortunately, the relevant "+" button becomes only visible if he hovers the mouse over the entry.
The short text in the middle of the screen should explain:
"Create a new Space: In the left side menu move the mouse to the entry "Space" and click on the "+" button that then appears right from it."
    .
In this context, it is worth noting that AnyTwo suffers from the same issue as Anytype:
At least in dark mode, the visibility isn't good enough.
For example the whole side menu is indistinguishable from the black main background; one can't see its boundaries.
That increases the chance that the user doesn't recognize at all that there appears that small "+" button.
-- Believe me, I've my experiences with introducing people into software. You wouldn't believe what the oversee!
  3. Again in this context:
ALL elements in a good user interface should have Tooltips!
For the actual example with the "Space" entry in the left side menu:
Aa soon as the user hovers the mouse over the entry, a Tooltip should appear that shortly explains that the user can create a new Space by clicking on the small "+" button.

Don't underestimate the importance of these little things!
I can tell you that I myself was three years ago multiple times on the edge of despair because of missing Tooltips, because of unclear and much to short texts, and because of invisible or barely visible UI elements!

I was sooo frustrated!
Now I see that AnyTwo repeats the same errors.

-- Please make the UI as clear and as self explaining as possible!

I have marked this issue as Snooze for now and we'll return to it in the future.

Just a quick point. We have not worked on onboarding properly at all because of the stage of development that we're in—that is, early days. Once we have everything working, then it makes sense to build a proper onboarding with all the things you'd expect. Getting started space, product tour, etc.

It's great that we have this post here, because we can reference it again in the future when we come to that.
