Web links: show web target on link hover

Hovering on a web link should display the target:
Please display the full URL (without any modification or truncation), to prevent the user from getting fooled and mislead to a malicious website by clicking on a link.

Oh, A VERY IMPORTANT addition:
Because of a very different security reason, I'm strongly against a behavior that pings the web target on hover!
Also opening the Page that contains the link is not allowed do perform a ping!
-- Please make sure that the mere hovering and displaying the link's target definitely doesn't cause a ping to that website!
Again:
NO PING TO THE TARGET!
Only display the target URL on hover, but don't interact with it in any way!

(This topic has once caused an immense and very heated debate in the Anytype community forum!)

Thanks for the suggestion—this is a solid security-minded feature. A couple of quick clarifications:

  1. When you say "display the full URL," do you mean in a tooltip on hover, or somewhere else in the UI? And should it show for all links, or just external ones?
  2. Have you run into a case where a link's displayed text didn't match where it actually goes? That'd help us prioritize this.

Answers to your questions:
1. It's not so important for me where the URL becomes displayed.
It can be a tooltip, but I would prefer the same behavior as in a web browser, where it becomes displayed on the bottom.
Make what you think is the best way.
2. I did run in such cases in other Apps. The real target became "modified" or truncated. And this is in my opinion dangerous, because it could mislead the user.
The displayed URL should be the real URL in full length without any modifications.
A nasty URL can have some dirty tricks in it to mislead the user, especially if it becomes "interpreted" from the software that displays ist.

Oh, and an addition:
For displaying the URL use a font that clearly differentiates between "0" and "O" and between "I" ans "l", and so on.
