On blank Pages should be an option to enter properties right away, not only after the first property has been added via a collection.

·2 days agoThanks for the suggestion, Zak. Just to make sure we understand the workflow you're looking for — when you create a new blank page, you'd like to be able to add properties to it directly in that initial state, rather than needing to add content from a collection first?
A couple of clarifying questions would help:
- What properties are you thinking of? (metadata like tags, dates, custom fields — or something else?)
- How often do you find yourself creating blank pages that need properties set before any content goes in?
This'll help us understand how common the friction point is and what the ideal flow would look like.
Actually today was the first time, I tried to enter a property to a page. It sort of makes sense, that there was no option, because I did not have added the page to a collection then.
Nevertheless I was confused, because I forgot that properties need a collection to sort things out.
At the moment a new page without collection looks like this:
So what if we changed the message to the unexperienced user above from "Add to collection" into "Add to collection to add properties"? That could be a hint to direct in the right direction.
For my case it doesn't matter which property to add.
It's just the fact, that you don't get a hint that you have to put it in a collection first before you can add properties. That's why I think the little mouse-over text shown in the picture above should be more clear about collections and properties.
I'm closing this improvement because it's not how the system works. Anytwo is not like Anytype where properties exist independently. Properties must have a Collection/Type, which is why you must first have one of those in place before you add any property.
As mentioned in another post, describe what you're trying to do so we can better understand what you're trying to accomplish (rather than just the solution). You can use a Collection just like a property tag. Or were you looking to add some other kind of property.
I described my situation in discussion with Alex further below and made a proposition.
I think the issue here is that you're operating from the mindset of Anytype. In what scenario exactly is the user trying to add a property? That is, what are they looking to do? Many new users actually just use the 'tag property' to organise their pages. But as I've mentioned, you can just use a Collection exactly as that—a tag. You don't need a property.
If you can describe the problem/scenario, that's much more helpful that proposing a solution without context.
It is more about onboarding new users. If you do not know the function of collections and that you have to add a collection first, change over to the collection, enter the properties, go back to the page, to be able to add even more properties directly into the page, that is confusing, isn't it?
Somehow new or forgetful people (like me) could use a hint in the right place in the right time. Like:
"Hmm, I have a blank page. How do I add properties like I saw in this code-jack video? There is no option to see, just to add a collection..."
Do you know what I mean?
Ok, I'm going to simplify: what exact property do they want to put on this code-jack video? Is this date modified? A tag? A multi-select?
Edit: Btw, sorry if my messages are 'short'. I'm jumping across many issues and trying to be concise.
