Display rows only where there are actually cells in the collections/views

What went wrong?

I don't see any reason why the collection tables should span the entire width of the screen. From a UI perspective, there's no benefit, and from a UX perspective, it's ugly and unnecessary.

If there isn’t a valid reason (technical ease isn’t a good one), can you make it so that a collection table displays only the columns that need to be shown, at the desired dimensions, without the lines overflowing?

Consider moving the collection menu accordingly.

It's the same for collections or inline views: I've gotten into the habit of using two columns just to resize the column containing the view in order to hide those ugly lines. But it's cumbersome and causes other problems (when the display size changes).

Thanks for the detailed feedback — the screenshot and use-case help clarify what you're seeing.

To make sure we're solving the right problem: when you say the table spans the full width, are you referring to the column headers and data cells stretching edge-to-edge even when there's only one or two columns in the view, or the grid lines extending beyond the rightmost column? And when you resize to hide those lines, does the table then size itself correctly, or does it stay full-width but just get cut off visually?
