Close Tab GUI

What could be better?

When right clicking a tab provide the following options:

  • close current tab
  • lose all tabs

Also having a small graphical x so the tab can close would be helpful.

How so?

Currently there is only the options tomove left, move right, move to a new window, but doesn't include a a way within the GUI to close the tab, instead folks have to use a keyboard shortcut or move to a new window then close that window. Also if someone have many tabs open at once, it is quicker to close the entire application an reopen than just closing their current tabs.

Thanks for the detailed report — the screenshot and use case are clear. Just to confirm the scope: when you say "close all tabs," do you mean close all tabs in the current window, or close all tabs across the entire application? And are there any other tab-management actions (like closing tabs to the right, or grouping/pinning) that would be useful alongside these?

My thought would be either:

  • close all but current tab
  • or close all tabs and default to a "home page" tab.

I think Kaye talked about that in one of the townhall updates. I could also see the homepage being something either the user designates or the library view for the topmost space in their sidebar.

I don't have a preference. Maybe close other tabs instead. That's one of the options in Brave's browser and provides greater clarity for users.

As for other tab management. I could see grouping tabs as helpful, but I think this is generally most useful with a vertical tab display.

It might make sense for me to create a new discussion ticket for Tab GUI to see what other people's needs might be.
However, some possible needs:

  • pinned tab
  • scroll bar for top tabs
  • grouped tabs, where you can name the group and clicking on the group provides a dropdown of all the tabs in the group.
  • close all the tabs in this group

I'm sure there are more I'm missing, but I'm not sure how helpful this is in an improvement ticket.
