Any Desktop v0.1.2

New

  • Select several rows in a collection table — hover a row for its checkbox, Shift for a range, and the header box for every loaded row.
  • A selection toolbar above the table with the count, Delete, and a button to clear the selection. Escape clears it too.
  • Favourite a Format from the Formats app — right-click its row, or use the star beside its name — and it appears in the sidebar under Favorites, the way a favourited Collection does.
  • Select text in the chat composer and paste a link to turn it into a link.
  • Put the cursor on a link in the chat composer to edit its address, open it, or remove it.
  • The + at the end of a table opens a name field right in the table header, with the type list below it.
  • Copy a chat member's full ID from their profile card.
  • Tapping (or activating with Enter/Space) an @mention in a chat message now opens that person's profile card, same as tapping their avatar.
  • Right-click a message reaction, or use the context-menu key, to see who reacted and open a person's profile card.
  • Create a page or an object in a collection from a table cell's / menu; its link updates to the object's current name.

Improved

  • The Formats mini app now has its own icon instead of borrowing the one from Tasks' logbook.
  • The Location property now has its own map-pin icon, the same one everywhere — it used to show a number sign in the property type picker and a document in filter and sort rows.
  • Chat uses the width of the window — the message column grows with the pane up to 880px, and the input grows with it. On a narrow window the column reaches the edges by itself, the way a messenger does.
  • A long message now gets a wider bubble, while short ones stay compact — so the stack of messages keeps an even edge instead of one long line with a stub under it.
  • The "nothing here yet" screens in Wiki, Collections, Scheduled and on a switched-off feature now share one design — a framed icon, a slightly larger title and a softer explanation — instead of four near-identical variants.
  • Bao's panel now uses the same header as every other app column — a little shorter, with a divider under it.
  • Mini-app headers now use tighter spacing between the icon and title.
  • Delete selected rows with one confirmation to move them to the space's Archive, and restore them all with a single Undo.
  • Collection content now has a 40px side inset.
  • Selection highlights across the app are slightly lighter.
  • Selected chips now use solid outlines.
  • Waiting attachments update to photos or videos automatically when the sender's upload completes, without reopening the chat.
  • Grouped table rows no longer react to the pointer as you scroll past them.
  • Bao in the status bar now uses a larger Agent icon, bright when active on this device and dimmed otherwise.
  • When Bao is active and idle, the icon glances once a minute; reduced-motion settings disable this animation.
  • The bao status icon's hover is now a round highlight.
  • The slash menu and Turn into no longer offer column layouts for now. Dragging a block beside another one still creates columns.
  • The Types mini app is now called Formats.
  • The Collections mini app now describes itself as grouping objects by format.
  • Unread chat counts now use a blue badge. Mentions replace the count with an @ badge. A heart badge marks reactions and can appear beside either one.
  • Expanding a space or direct chat moves its unread badge to its Chat row; if that row is hidden, the badge stays on the parent row.
  • Small avatar initials and due counters now use consistent typography.
  • The desktop app icon now shows the ~a mark.
  • Links in received chat messages and in the composer now use blue text.
  • The link bar tells you why an address was refused, hides Open when there is nowhere to go, and names a file link as "File" instead of showing its address.
  • Linked text is preserved when a chat draft is reopened or a sent message is edited.
  • The jump-to-latest button now scrolls smoothly, while reduced-motion settings keep the move instant.
  • When a mini-app side list is closed, a header button reopens it at its remembered width and exits focus mode.
  • When Bao can't finish a task, the chat now says what went wrong in plain words — out of credits, provider busy, took too long — with a direct fix where there is one, instead of a raw error.
  • Expand Show details to read or copy the full error for a bug report.
  • The text cursor is the same blue accent in every field.
  • The stop button in a bao chat is now a neutral button instead of a red one.
  • Link underlines in pages are lighter, matching links in chat.
  • The backdrop behind an opened photo or video is slightly lighter.
  • Adding a property now starts with its name — type the name, pick a type, and the property is created with that name, no rename step.
  • After adding a property in the collection's settings panel, its settings open right away.
  • The property picker separates hidden properties, new property types and automatically filled properties; typing a name no longer filters the list.
  • The property name field is focused when adding a property in view settings. Text is selected by default, so Enter creates a Text property.
  • Press Escape or click outside to cancel adding a table column without saving; focus returns to the + button.
  • The column name editor now places the cursor at the end instead of selecting the whole name.
  • Every "are you sure?" dialog now looks the same — a bigger title, an outlined Cancel, and a red button for anything that deletes, including moving an object to the Archive.
  • While a delete or other confirmed action is running, its button shows a spinner and the dialog can't be closed halfway through.
  • Disabled delete buttons now use an outline instead of a solid fill.
  • While a confirmed action is running, its button keeps keyboard focus and ignores repeated clicks or Enter presses.
  • Links in chat messages are now underlined, so they stand out from the text around them.
  • Links and mentions in your own messages now use full-strength white across themes, with a softer timestamp that remains readable on the blue bubble.
  • Chat profile cards now have a larger avatar, the member's name and a full-width Send message button. Remove member is in the … menu when you have permission.
  • Reaction hover tooltips have been replaced by a people menu.
  • Object links occupying a whole table-cell block now display as cards with live names; links within a sentence stay inline.
  • The jump-to-latest arrow shows the remaining unread count and counts down as messages are read.
  • Bao retries temporary connection failures and busy-provider responses before giving up.
  • Bao can wait longer for AI responses that are still making progress, reducing failures during slow generations.
  • Bao's AI requests now follow task cancellation and time limits while receiving a response.
  • When Bao tries to group unsupported actions, it now receives one clear error explaining how to proceed, rather than an error for every item.

Fixed

  • Tag and date changes made as your edit access is removed now report that they weren't saved.
  • Property reordering that cannot be saved no longer appears successful.
  • A property rename that cannot be saved now restores the previous name.
  • Closing a callout's icon picker keeps the cursor in place and no longer jumps the page to the top.
  • Pages stay read-only when your access level cannot be recognized.
  • A filter chip no longer shows a hover tooltip repeating what the chip already says.
  • New accounts no longer show unrelated people in direct-chat suggestions.
  • Search no longer suggests unrelated people in author filters.
  • New accounts no longer open in a hidden space that is missing from the sidebar.
  • Unavailable photos and videos in chat now show "Waiting for sender" while waiting for the sender's upload.
  • Waiting chat attachments no longer open an error page when clicked.
  • Videos that are still waiting for the sender's upload no longer appear as empty rectangles.
  • Contacts, CRM and Tasks now find their data in newly set up spaces as well as older spaces.
  • People and organizations created in newer spaces now appear in their correct directory sections.
  • Creating projects and areas in newly set up spaces no longer fails with a setup error.
  • Screen readers now announce when an object is being removed from a collection.
  • Scrolling collection and format tables is smoother.
  • Adding a third saved view to a format or collection no longer overwrites the second.
  • Duplicating a saved view repeatedly now creates separate views instead of replacing an earlier duplicate.
  • Numbered and bulleted lists in chat messages now look like the rest of the message — no extra indent or padding.
  • The new direct chat, task project/area picker and @ mention menus now share a height limit, with scrollable lists and faded edges to show more results.
  • Reactions from other people now use the same grey as the message bubble.
  • The formatting toolbar now works when creating a new page. Selecting text in the New object popup and clicking Bold, Italic or a block type applies it, instead of the toolbar appearing and doing nothing.
  • The slash (/) menu, the [[ and @ reference pickers and the block and table menus are now clickable in the New object popup too.
  • The [[ and @ reference picker no longer opens hidden behind the New object popup.
  • The Add link picker no longer opens hidden behind the New object popup.
  • Table controls — add row and column, the resize handles and row reordering — now work in the New object popup instead of being covered by the dialog.
  • Screen readers can reach the editor's toolbar, menus and pickers in the New object popup, and the editor's status announcements are no longer silenced there.
  • Code-block controls, column resize handles and block-selection tools now work in the New object popup.
  • Synced-block menus no longer open behind the New object popup.
  • In the New object popup, pressing Enter after typing a title now moves the cursor into the page body, the same as it does on a page opened from a wiki or collection. Previously only Tab worked there.
  • Pasting a URL over selected text now turns that text into a link in pages, embedded blocks and mail notes, instead of replacing it with the raw URL.
  • A favourited Format is drawn with its own shape in the sidebar instead of the Collections icon.
  • A format's Favorites entry stays highlighted while you browse that format inside the Formats app.
  • When the chat composer can't link the selected text — over a mention, or across a blank line — the text stays as it was and a message says why, instead of being replaced by the raw address.
  • A pasted link whose address contains parentheses now sends to the right place and shows its label again when the message is edited.
  • Typing a character right before a linked word no longer pulls it into the link, and deleting a repeated word before a link no longer removes the link.
  • Jumping to an old message in a long chat no longer flickers while earlier history loads.
  • A chat no longer stops following new messages after loading older history that turned out empty.
  • A collapsed space, direct chat or Agent in the sidebar now stays highlighted while something inside it is open, instead of the sidebar showing nothing selected.
  • Delete confirmations no longer change their displayed count or switch to Close-only while deletion is running.
  • The selected day in a date picker now stays legible in Dark theme instead of turning dark on the blue background.
  • Object links in table cells now survive navigation and reloading instead of turning into plain text.
  • Images in table cells now survive saving and reloading instead of becoming file names.
  • File links in table cells now stay inline and retain their destinations after saving.
  • Images added to table cells from another client now display as pictures rather than an exclamation mark and a link.
  • Reopening Bao's chat now refreshes its configuration status instead of treating stale settings as ready.
  • Viewing your own profile card no longer shows a "Send message" button that would fail.
  • Opening a reaction's people menu no longer opens the message menu at the same time.
  • A member-removal confirmation stays open if the reaction used to open it disappears.
  • Release notes with linked feedback or special characters now publish correctly on say.any.org.
  • Chats with unread messages now open at the "New messages" divider instead of the bottom.
  • Within a session, chats with no unread messages restore your previous position when you return, as long as that message is still loaded.
  • Interrupted or incomplete AI replies are retried instead of being treated as finished.
  • Bao now handles Gemini tool calls that were previously mistaken for finished replies.
  • Bao estimates context usage when an AI provider doesn't report it, instead of treating it as zero.
  • Invalid AI timeout settings now produce an error instead of crashing Bao.
