Anytwo Cohort 1 Tester Feedback Report (v0.1.4 Windows)

Tester Environment:

  • OS: Windows 11 (x64)
  • App Version: Anytwo Desktop v0.1.4
  • User Profile: Active Anytype Beta User (holding 10GB plan since Jan 2024, former Notion user)

1. Installation & Vault Upgrade Code

  • Status: Passed.
  • Feedback: The Windows installer (windows-x86_64-Any_0.1.4_x64-setup.exe) installed cleanly. The vault upgrade code (SI21UV) was applied successfully.

2. Bug: Agent Runtime Not Auto-Starting (anyrt serve)

  • Severity: High (Blocks Integrations & AI).
  • Symptom: Pressing "Connect" on Google OAuth throws: Could not reach the agent runtime. Is anyrt serve running?.
  • Root Cause: The background server binary (any.exe) does not start any.exe run automatically on Windows startup. Non-technical users will be stuck unless they manually launch any.exe run from $env:LOCALAPPDATA\Any\.

3. UX: Google OAuth Key Field Formatting

  • Symptom: Clicking "Add Key" presents a single text input box.
  • Feedback: Providing a single input box without helper text is confusing. Users expect separate Client ID and Client Secret fields, or explicit instructions showing that full JSON or Client_ID:Client_Secret syntax is required.

4. UX: Onboarding Friction (Mini-Apps vs Formats vs Wiki)

  • Symptom: Confusion when trying to create basic pages and objects.
  • Feedback: Coming from Anytype (where Object Types & Sets were listed in the sidebar), the new Mini-Apps Dashboard (Wiki vs Formats vs Collections) feels unfamiliar at first. A brief 3-step onboarding overlay explaining where to write pages (Wiki) vs view raw types (Formats) would make onboarding much smoother.

5. Shared Space Token: Anytwo Assembly Join Blocked

  • Symptom: Entering the Anytwo Assembly invite token from the email results in: Waiting for space owner to accept.
  • Feedback: Direct token invites leave the user in a pending state rather than auto-joining the shared testing space.

#4 we will work extensively on onboarding once the product is at a more developed state. Agreed on the issue.
#5 this is a security issue (to have auto-join) and we've opted for request for approval instead. Not a bug, but a preference. We will install a system similar to Anytype in the future where you can have auto-join, but even in this case, we would not have enabled it.

Follow-up Findings & Technical Details (Cohort 1 Testing):

  1. Google OAuth Callback Listener Timeout (ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
  • Symptom: After entering the OAuth keys and proceeding through Google's authorization screen, Google redirected to http://127.0.0.1:<random_port>/oauth/callback with ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED.
  • Root Cause: anyrt spawns a temporary dynamic HTTP listener (e.g. port 7083 / 4734). Because Google presents an unverified developer app warning screen ("Google hasn't verified this app"), navigating through Advanced -> Go to app (unsafe) took longer than the temporary listener's timeout, causing the callback port to close before Google redirected back.
  • Recommendation: Increase the temporary OAuth callback listener timeout or use a fixed localhost callback port.
  1. Tasks & Areas UI: Orphaned / Stale Sidebar Navigation
  • Symptom: Creating a new Area adds it under Tasks -> Areas in the sidebar (Documents, House, Untitled, Test). However, deleting or trashing the Area object from the space leaves the deleted Area permanently stuck in the Tasks sidebar navigation.
  • Recommendation: Ensure the Tasks sidebar query reactively filters out deleted/trashed Area objects.
  1. Tasks UI: Missing UI Deletion Controls for Tasks & Areas
  • Symptom: There is currently no UI method to delete a task or area row. There are no hover trash bin icons, no right-click context menus, and pressing Delete or Backspace does not delete items.
  • Workaround: Prompting the AI agent in chat to "delete task" succeeded (confirming the backend API supports deletion), but the prototype UI lacks any visual deletion controls.
  1. Tasks View Menu (...)
  • Symptom: Clicking the ... breadcrumb menu on Task views currently only displays "About this prototype".
  • Recommendation: Replace or supplement this with standard view options (Delete, Filter, Sort, Display Density).
  1. Database Views & Parity (Inline DB & Gallery Views)
  • Feedback: Users migrating from classic Anytype miss Inline Database embeds and Gallery views. Also, adding a brief note in the UI/Docs explaining that pages are stored in local CRDT AnytwoDB/LevelDB (rather than raw .md files) helps align expectations for users coming from Obsidian.

Thanks for this feedback, however it is best not to bundle all of your issues into a big post—especially not in a comment thread. Our system is designed so that one bug = one post. This way, we can accurately triage, update status, and make comments. Everything bundled in one is a recipe for confusion.

For example, I have no way to label this issue accurately because it spans many different areas.

Hi @Kaye ,
should I remove this post and make separate posts with each issue?

Yes, that would be a little easier to process. For the other points where you're sharing general feedback, doing that in chat also works better.
This feedback board is best for individual issues. Sorry for being a pain in the bum.
