Floating text-styling bar
Problem / Current Friction
One thing that has always frustrated me a bit in Anytype is text styling. Whenever I want to format text (bold, italic, strikethrough, underline, text/background color, alignment, links...), having to right-click or dig through menus breaks the flow. Not all options are equally accessible either: if I want to center or justify text, I practically have to jump through hoops to find the setting. On top of that, there's no way to justify or align all the text across an entire page at once, which is really frustrating when you want a clean layout.
Proposed Solution:
Making a dockable/floating styling bar. There could be an option in settings to enable/disble a persistent, floating formatting bar:
- Collapsible: It could collapse into a small floating icon when not actively typing or styling (either toggled manually or collapsing automatically).
- Flexible placement: Movable to any edge of the screen (top, bottom, or sides) to fit different workflows and monitor setups.
- All-in-one access: Gives quick, one-click access to all formatting and block alignment tools at a glance—similar to the utility of Word or Google Docs, but minimal, lightweight, and tailored to Anytype’s design system.
- Page-level alignment: A quick option to apply text alignment (like justify or left-align) to multiple selected blocks or the entire page.

All of these are directly available once you highlight the text (except colours and alignment). Is there a reason why a toolbar at the top would provide additional advantage? The vast majority of tools in the bar you outlined are accessible via shortcuts in a block editor.

After thinking about it, I agree that a persistent top bar could be distracting. My main point still comes down to alignment and the styling features that haven't been ported over yet.
The best compromise would be keeping the original features from the old pop-up bar, while making alignment accessible in no more than 2 clicks (Alignment icon > Justify).
If that and the bulk alignment feature are coming soon, that completely solves what I was missing
