Chat: better separation of the posts.
In a chat with many user, I find it extremely hard to visually AND mentally sort out:
"What belongs to this user, what belong to the next post, what belongs to the previous?"
For me, the whole chat looks like an overwhelming and confusing blobb of twittering on a black background without any visible separation.
Requested improvements:
- Everything that belongs to one post should be in a box with a slightly coloured background (oh, I should better not write "slightly" -- I fear this goes wrong ...).
- The bg colur of these blocks should alternate. That means, the next post has another bg colour.
- There should be a gap between two posts, so that one can differentiate them from each other even if one has problems with the eye sight and can not well see the bg colours.
- Also a thin horizontal separator line between the posts would be nice, to add one additional element more that helps to get the separation visual clear.

·2 days agoThanks so much for reporting this — visual clarity in chat is crucial, and you've pinpointed exactly what's breaking it.
To make sure we capture the right fix: when you say the posts feel like "one blob," are you experiencing this mainly on desktop, mobile, or both? And when you mention alternating background colors — would a subtle shift (like a 5–10% opacity change) feel like enough contrast for you, or do you need something more distinct?
Also, just to clarify the use case: does this confusion happen most when you're skimming back through a long conversation to find a specific person's point, or is it harder to follow in real-time as new posts come in?
What you're requesting for is a discussion like interface for chat, much more similar to Slack which has threads. These also perform very differently when thinking about 1:1 chats vs. a huge group of people. Regardless, this is not the same format which Chat takes. There's potential for it to be a different format altogether, but it doesn't make sense to 'improve' chat into a hybrid into slack-like messages.
A different feature request can be put forth to have an entirely different chat format if you'd prefer (more like Slack).
(So exhausting)
No matter if 1 to 1 chat, or group chat (I use both): I request for a better recognizable separation.
The actual effect is very bad in the group chat, where it is worse then in the 1 to1. Both need improvements, especially the group chat.
But this has nothing to do with other chat formats, like trees vs. long list.
Actually, the chat messages are shown in a long list. My request if for that format, I don't talk about other formats. I request only some little and logic clear improvements, like a gap between the posts, and so on.
Actually, it's a confusing catastrophe how it looks!
It's not fun at all to use the chat; indeed, it feels like a plague that's to avoid!
And that simply because of a bunch of unbelievable bad and obvious little design choices that could become improved so effortless!
I beg you to open this request again!
