Any Desktop v0.1.4
New
- Middle-click a page, chat, collection or supported link or sidebar item to open a background tab; Shift+middle-click switches to it. Links inside editable pages work too.
- Archive rows, backlinks, related objects, relation values and connectors now open in a new tab on ⌘-click (Ctrl-click on Windows and Linux) too.
- Middle-click a tab to close it.
- On macOS and Windows, your mouse's back and forward buttons now navigate within Any.
- The block menu has "Open all toggles" and "Close all toggles" when two or more toggles are selected.
- A plus button at the end of the quick-reaction bar in a message's right-click menu — it opens the full emoji picker, so you can react with any emoji instead of only the six on offer.
- The first chip under an object's title is now its format, such as Page or Action, and its arrow opens that format as a collection.
- Select text in a chat draft to apply bold, italic, code or strikethrough from the toolbar. On macOS, use ⌘B, ⌘I, ⌘E or ⌘⇧S. Markdown markers remain visible while composing.
- Add a link to selected chat text using the Link button or ⌘K on macOS.
- The document editor now has a keyboard shortcut for strikethrough: ⌘⇧S on macOS.
- Open the new Members screen from the people pill in a space's settings to see who belongs to the space.
- Change member roles from the Members screen when you have permission.
- Remove members from the Members screen when you have permission.
- Accept or decline pending join requests from the Members screen when you have permission.
- Search the member list and sort it by name or role; pending join requests stay at the top.
- Full-width pages in Settings → Preferences → Appearance lets document pages fill their pane, giving text, tables and code more room. It updates open pages immediately, is off by default and is saved on this device.
- Auto-collapse spaces in Settings → Preferences is on by default. Turn it off to keep other spaces expanded until the pointer leaves the sidebar; keyboard and touch still collapse them immediately. The choice is saved on this device.
- Device-to-device sync over the internet is now enabled by default on the standard network, including across different local networks.
Improved
- Agent diagnostic logs and exports now include the underlying causes of startup and configuration failures.
- Use Up/Down on the first/last visible line or Left/Right at the start/end to leave a synced block. Left/Right mirror in right-to-left text. You move to the neighboring block, with a new paragraph only when needed.
- The update card shows when an update is installing.
- The update card offers a retry after a recoverable installation or restart failure.
- Previously opened tabs keep receiving new messages, page edits and collection updates while in the background.
- The emoji and icon picker card is a little less rounded, matching its design.
- Tabs show the name and icon of the open page, contact, collection or mini-app. Journal days and meeting selections use their app's name and icon.
- Settings tabs show the open category; account settings use your account name and avatar.
- A link to an object inside text now looks like a web link — underlined instead of bold — so it reads as clickable.
- The row and column handles of a table now appear when you point at a cell and follow the pointer, instead of only after you click into a cell.
- Table right-click and row and column menus now match Any's other menus, with updated spacing, rounded corners and a thin outline.
- The resting table handle is now a solid blue bar.
- The column handle now sits on the table's top edge.
- The formula panel uses the same popover appearance as table menus.
- The callout icon picker now shares your account's Recently used emoji with other icon pickers, so choices are easy to find again.
- The Formats app names every format in the singular: Page, File, View, Discussion (the chat) and Action (formerly Task), with files grouped as Image, Video, Audio and Document.
- The people pill now shows up to three member avatars alongside the count.
- Selected text in the editor has a stronger highlight, especially in Dim and Dark themes.
- Ready math and Mermaid blocks show only the rendered result outside editing, including on read-only pages. Click the result or use arrow keys to edit; unfinished or invalid blocks keep their source visible.
- The code-block language "Math" is now "Math (LaTeX)" and appears first when you search for latex, tex, katex or equation.
- Selected media remains identifiable in high-contrast mode with an outline instead of a tinted overlay.
- Switching spaces no longer triggers an immediate background member refresh in every other space, reducing unnecessary network activity.
- The open space uses its live member list instead of redundant background member checks.
- On full-width pages, pictures, videos and embeds keep their reading width unless you resize a picture.
- Existing link-only list items and headings now use the saved link name without a card icon; the saved document is unchanged.
- Copy invite code in the space menu and Members screen puts an invite code straight on your clipboard instead of opening a dialog.
- A table in a document now spreads into the full width of the page instead of stopping at the text column, and only starts scrolling sideways once it runs past the edge.
- On macOS, local-network device discovery starts disabled rather than sending discovery traffic automatically.
- Account recovery can retrieve pages and files from your other devices over the internet.
- Files can transfer between devices over the internet even when you have no cloud file-storage allowance.
Fixed
- Line breaks inside bulleted, numbered and checklist items stay attached after saving and reopening, including nested items and lists in table cells.
- Turning a heading or a text block into a toggle from the block menu now happens instantly instead of after a delay.
- Shift+Enter inside a synced block now inserts a line break instead of jumping out of the block.
- Desktop updates install only after you click Update.
- On Windows, updates wait for Any's background service to close before starting the installer.
- If a Windows update fails after Any has shut down, a dialog explains the failure and asks you to reopen Any. The app exits instead of remaining hidden and blocking later launches.
- Background update checks skip a version whose Windows installer failed to launch after Any shut down.
- Signing in while an update downloads no longer interrupts the download.
- Middle-clicking tabs and supported new-tab targets no longer triggers autoscroll on Windows and Linux or pastes selected text on Linux.
- Collections remember whether their properties are shown or hidden when opening another object or reloading the app.
- Reordering collection chips preserves the selected collection even when its properties are hidden.
- Arrow keys now move through the block menu when it is opened inside a table cell, instead of moving the cursor out of the table and closing the menu.
- Copying a space's invite reuses its current code when available instead of replacing it, so invites already sent keep working.
- Space owners can copy their existing invite code on another device signed in to the same account.
- Returning to a collection after opening one of its items keeps your scroll position in Table and List views.
- The "+" add-row bar stays aligned with the table when rows grow, images load, columns resize or the page scrolls, instead of overlapping cells.
- Right-clicking an object card on its own in a table cell now offers Duplicate and Delete block without affecting the rest of the table.
- After closing a table-cell object's menu, Delete or Cut acts on the card rather than the whole table.
- Deleting the last block in a table cell leaves an empty paragraph ready for typing.
- Chat message backlinks open the source chat at the referenced message, including in new tabs, instead of the Chats data view. Backlink source headers also open the chat.
- Clicking a selected toggle's arrow or activating it with Space or Enter opens or closes every selected toggle together and keeps the selection.
- Pasting text into a quote now keeps it inside the quote, with paragraphs and lists intact, instead of splitting the quote around the pasted content.
- Turning a line with text into a quote from the slash menu no longer adds an empty line above it or moves the cursor to the start of the line.
- Selecting text across several blocks now offers Toggle List and Callout in the formatting toolbar, like the block menu does.
- Turning selected list items into callouts or quotes converts every selected item without removing bullets from the rest of the list.
- One undo now takes back a whole Turn into, however many blocks it converted.
- Turn into from the block menu works again right after an undo.
- The formatting toolbar no longer offers Quote or Code block inside table cells, preventing whole-table quote conversion and ineffective code conversion.
- Multi-block conversions stay saved instead of disappearing shortly afterward or after a reload.
- The formatting toolbar correctly identifies a single-paragraph callout as Callout.
- Turning selected text into toggles or callouts keeps the text selection.
- Coming back to a chat tab no longer jumps to later messages; you are where you left off, including in older history you had scrolled back to.
- Chat reconnects can preserve older messages you loaded when the refreshed history overlaps them.
- Paragraphs, bullet markers and numbered lists now align consistently across indentation levels.
- Pressing Enter in an indented paragraph now keeps the new line at the same indentation, and Enter at the start of an indented paragraph no longer moves its text back to the margin.
- Dropping an image or file outside the editor no longer replaces the whole app with the file.
- Dropping a file onto a page title or a text field no longer types the file's location into it.
- Dropping a file onto an image or embed block in a page now adds it there instead of breaking the app.
- Dropping a link where it isn't accepted no longer navigates away from Any.
- Right-clicking a link in a document or a table now offers Copy link address, so you can copy the link's URL without opening it.
- Styling selected toggles applies to titles and visible content in open toggles, without changing content hidden inside closed toggles.
- Adding or removing a link across closed toggles no longer changes the hidden content inside them.
- The formatting toolbar reflects only visible selected text when a selection crosses closed toggles.
- Paragraphs in chat messages are separated by a full blank line again, so they are easier to tell apart.
- Bulleted, numbered and checkbox list items now have the same height and spacing as ordinary text, so a page reads with one even rhythm.
- Clicking the empty part of a new page in the create popup no longer closes the popup and loses what you wrote.
- Callouts that start with a list align their icon with the first line and have the same bottom spacing as callouts that start with text.
- Right-click menus throughout Any leave a gap from the window edge.
- Chat tabs now show the space's name and icon, or the other person's name and avatar for a direct chat, instead of "General".
- The icon picker on a callout opens directly under the callout, aligned to its left edge, instead of far to the right.
- A callout's icon is centred on the first line when the callout starts with a heading or a quote.
- The table outline now matches its add buttons in Dark theme.
- Callout backgrounds stand out more clearly from the page in Light, Dim and Dark themes.
- The table row and column menu no longer gets cut off when the table sits near the bottom of the page — it opens upward instead.
- On macOS and Linux, the / menu opens near the caret in right-to-left text instead of jumping to a window corner.
- The / menu stays inside the window when opened near its right edge.
- Paste-as and embed-paste menus open near the caret in right-to-left text.
- The embedding model download in the status bar shows readable sizes such as 323 MB / 610 MB, or the downloaded size when the total is unknown.
- On macOS and Linux, the cursor keeps a consistent appearance and height at the end of right-to-left text instead of switching to the system cursor.
- On macOS and Linux, pressing Up at the end of a wrapped Persian paragraph in a synced block moves to the line above instead of leaving the block.
- Caret menus follow the correct end of mixed right-to-left text, including lines ending in Latin words or numbers.
- Right-to-left lists, checklists, quotes, callouts and toggles now mirror their markers, checkboxes, borders, icons and arrows to the right.
- Decimal numbering in Persian and Arabic lists now uses Persian (۱ ۲ ۳) or Arabic (١ ٢ ٣) digits.
- An object title written in a right-to-left language now aligns right, and a title mixing right-to-left and left-to-right words reads in the right order.
- Small Mermaid diagrams no longer blow up to the full width of the page; they show at their natural size and still shrink to fit narrow columns.
- While you drag a collection chip under an object's title, the other chips move out of its way again.
- Reloading the Page table opens it again instead of loading forever.
- The divider between two columns is now easy to find and grab next to one-line blocks, and a block's drag handle no longer shows beside it while you resize.
- The "…" button in Wiki and Collections now opens a menu for the open page or collection, and is hidden when nothing is open.
- Backspace or Delete at the edge of an @-mention or [[ link removes the whole reference in one step. Word deletion also removes any separating spaces, and Undo restores it.
- In a right-to-left to-do list, ArrowRight at the start of an item now moves to its checkbox (Space ticks it) and ArrowLeft moves into the text, the mirror of a left-to-right list.
- An object name written in a right-to-left language, or mixing right-to-left and left-to-right words, now reads in the right order in tabs, breadcrumbs, the sidebar, search, backlinks, tables and lists, Tasks, Bookmarks, chat and object pickers.
- A long right-to-left name is now shortened at its end, so its first words stay visible.
- An object name or @-mention written in another script — a Persian name in an English sentence, or the reverse — now reads in its own direction, and a line that starts with a name keeps the direction of its own text.
- Callouts and lists follow their own text's direction and numbering style even when the first line starts with a name in another script.
- After inserting an object or web link with the / menu, the cursor stays after the link and its trailing space, including in table cells.
- Choosing an object with
@or[[on an empty line now shows its card with the icon straight away, instead of only after the page is reopened. - Pressing Back after opening a deleted page from the Archive now returns you to the Archive instead of the space's chat.
- Reloading the Archive or returning to its space or tab keeps you in the Archive.
- In the desktop app, opening a picture from a space's Files list, or a video in a chat, no longer also opens it in your web browser.
- Chat messages in Persian, Arabic or Hebrew now read right to left, and names and links inside a message keep their own direction.
- Each paragraph in a mixed-language message follows its own direction; right-to-left paragraphs align to the right.
- For messages ending in a right-to-left paragraph, the timestamp moves to the bottom-left corner to avoid covering text.
- Right-to-left text also displays correctly in search previews, mail, meeting notes, bookmark text, mini-app descriptions and the agent's Soul.
- The editor's
[[object picker and@people picker keep their name for screen readers while you type, instead of intermittently announcing a generic "Typeahead menu". - Text selection in the editor and standard app text now uses the same blue highlight.
- Copy Markdown and plain-text copies use $$ display-math notation for equations outside synced blocks, improving compatibility with other Markdown apps.
- Click-selected images, videos and files now show a visible highlight; dragging a block selection across media also highlights embeds.
- Opening Contacts or CRM in a space no longer highlights both apps in the sidebar at once.
- Linking to a block in a document that contains a numbered list no longer fails as out of date.
- Version history shows each numbered list item with its own number.
- Version history correctly aligns continuation lines in numbered lists, including items numbered 10 or higher.
- The "…" menu offers Copy Markdown for pages and Journal entries, while other objects such as actions show Copy link and Delete.
- With a task open, one click on another task now opens it, instead of only closing the open task and losing your place in the list.
- Clicking a checkbox or the "New task" row below an open task, or Shift-clicking a task below it, now works instead of being lost.
- An open New task card now waits until you release the pointer before closing.
- The "…" button no longer appears in page headers where it had nothing to offer, such as Files, Meetings, and Skills or Contacts with nothing selected.
- An object or file link on its own in a list item or a heading now looks the same after you reopen the page, instead of turning into a link card.
- Block drag handles disappear when you move into a neighboring sidebar or pane instead of lingering over it.
- In narrow editor panes, block menus open below or above the block instead of covering the sidebar or drag handle.
- Opening a space or direct chat shows content or a neutral loading view, rather than briefly claiming it is empty. Space chat tabs keep the space's name while loading.
- Meetings and Tasks no longer briefly say a space has no meetings or tasks, or that Meetings is not set up, while the space is still loading.
- Direct chat headers and search use the other person's name, or a shortened identity if unnamed, instead of "Untitled".
- Newly added direct-chat Favorites use the other person's label instead of "Untitled"; existing saved names are unchanged.
- Direct chats use matching avatars in their headers, tabs and search.
- Nameless regular spaces are labeled "New space" consistently in chat headers and search.
- The Members screen waits for the roster to load instead of briefly showing "Nothing found" or listing only you.
- Member counts in chat and space settings wait for the roster instead of briefly showing only one person.
- Member lists preserve joins, removals and updated member details that arrive while the roster is loading.
- Switching spaces in the sidebar no longer makes the app lists jump, blink or leave an empty gap; the space you open and the one that closes now slide together.
- Tasks, Contacts and CRM can create projects, areas, people and deals in spaces using newer compatible versions of those apps, without unnecessary setup attempts.
- Trying to invite someone to a space you do not own no longer fails with "internal error" — the action is now greyed out and says only the space owner can invite people.
- Numbered lists keep each item's number after saving and reopening, including lists that start at a number other than 1.
- Continuation text stays aligned under numbered list items, even when markers use extra spaces or leading zeros.
