Any Desktop v0.1.6
New
Editor
- Create a table at your chosen size directly from the slash menu:
/Table 10x2creates 10 rows and two columns. - Start a code block by typing three backticks with an optional language, such as
text,md, orsh, then pressing Shift+Enter. - Type
:smile:or start an emoji shortcode in an editable text block to insert emoji.
Chat
- Code blocks in chat messages are syntax-highlighted, show their language, wrap long lines, and have a Copy button.
- Right-click a link in Chat Details and choose Go to message to jump to its source, including older messages.
- Type
:smile:or start an emoji shortcode in a chat message to insert emoji.
Collections & Library
- Create and link missing objects from relation fields in page headers or collection tables, with a destination choice when needed. Existing multi-value relations are kept.
- If linking a newly created object fails, retry while the picker stays open without creating another object.
- Collections folders can hold folders (two levels), with New folder inside and Move to on a folder row, and folder paths in a collection's Move to.
Spaces & members
- Click a person on a space's Members screen to message them or copy their ID.
Sidebar & navigation
- Switch between pages in a collection or type from the page breadcrumb, with search and keyboard navigation. Hover to browse without taking focus from the editor.
- Move tabs to new or existing windows from the tab menu, or drag a tab out of the tab bar with a preview that follows the pointer.
Desktop app
- Open another window with ⌘⇧N (Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows and Linux); each keeps its own tabs. New windows pick up Bao's current state and support downloads and YouTube embeds.
Settings
- A macOS preference to keep fullscreen when pressing Esc, while still closing search, menus, and dialogs.
Improved
Editor
- Code blocks recognise more languages and spellings, including console sessions, Batch, CSV, HTTP,
.env, jsonc, pwshand Postgres/MySQL SQL. - Pages keep the latest 100 undo steps. Once those are exhausted, Undo returns to app-level actions rather than older page edits.
- The cursor and scroll position stay more stable when an open page receives updates from another device or Bao.
Collections & Library
- Recents in the Library opens on the most recently edited items.
Tasks
- Deleting the project or area you have open returns you to Today.
Meetings
- Code blocks in Meetings now have syntax highlighting, language labels, wrapped lines and a Copy button.
- Code blocks in Mail now have syntax highlighting, language labels, wrapped lines and a Copy button.
Bookmarks
- Code blocks in bookmarks now have syntax highlighting, language labels, wrapped lines and a Copy button.
Spaces & members
- Member rows highlight on hover and while their menu is open. The divider below the table header has been removed.
Search
- Search in Chat Details matches both link labels and addresses.
Sidebar & navigation
- Favorites rows for mini apps and types now show the space's name after the app's name, so identical names from different spaces can be told apart.
- The general chat is labeled Chat in Favorites, with its space name shown separately.
- Code blocks in side-peek page previews now have syntax highlighting, language labels, wrapped lines and a Copy button.
- Dragging across the sidebar, tabs or headers no longer paints a text selection, and labels no longer show a text cursor. Messages, page bodies, table values and other content stay selectable.
- Keyboard shortcut help opens with Ctrl+Space.
- Favorites folder nesting is limited to two levels: a top-level folder and folders inside it.
- Tab moves wait for page and title saves and chat sends, retry failed page saves, and keep the source tab if saving or transfer fails. Moved chat drafts are cleared from the source window.
Desktop app
- Dragging an avatar or icon no longer shows a ghost image.
- Any checks for desktop updates every five minutes while signed in, so new releases are offered sooner.
- The Window menu lists each window by the page it shows. The menu-bar visibility preference applies in every window.
- Quitting from the app menu and installing updates wait for every window to save. Updates explain when a window cannot finish saving, and unresponsive windows can still be closed.
- Links, notification clicks and Bao navigation reach one window instead of every window. Menu actions and close requests affect only their intended window.
Sync
- When a page save merges conflicting edits to the same block, both versions are kept, with your version first.
Account & sign-in
- Signing in or out updates every open window.
Settings
- Device-local preferences and lists stay current across windows. On macOS, separate app instances use separate local storage; an existing second instance's local preferences reset once.
Performance
- Open pages use less memory and avoid unnecessary redraws when changes arrive from another device or Bao.
Accessibility
- Screen readers announce both the app or type name and its space for Favorites rows.
Other
- Code blocks in applet readmes now have syntax highlighting, language labels, wrapped lines and a Copy button.
- Release notes on say.any.org group each change under the part of the app it affects, such as Chat, Tasks or Desktop app, inside the New, Improved and Fixed sections.
Fixed
Editor
- Text typed right after a linked page or file now appears beside its inline link, keeping the same layout after reopening the page.
- Joining a linked page or file card to text with Backspace or Delete now turns the card into an inline link immediately.
- Page renames are now saved when you leave with keyboard navigation, keeping the page, sidebar and link cards consistent.
- Updates from another device or Bao no longer animate neighboring blocks when content is inserted.
- Copy link to block now appears for a paragraph whose link name has an unmatched bracket, such as “Draft] v2”.
- Links with unmatched brackets in their names stay intact in table cells after reopening a page.
- Clicking away from a rendered diagram or equation now hides its source and toolbar, even if the cursor remains inside. Its language picker still keeps editing open.
- Ctrl+/ (or Cmd+/ on macOS) opens the current block's actions with Turn into focused.
- YouTube playlist links can now be embedded in pages.
- YouTube embeds keep their player and playback position when switching between navigation tabs.
- Find heading commands with
/h1through/h4, and YouTube with/yt. - Line breaks within lists stay in their original item after saving and reloading.
- Inline-code styling on table formulas now fits the calculated result without leaving a blank highlighted area.
- A selected table no longer paints its highlight across the whole editor width; the band stays inside the page column, or follows the table when it is wider.
- On macOS, a page link on its own line no longer leaves an empty line underneath that turns the card into an inline link when you click and type.
- On macOS, lone files and pictures no longer leave an empty line under them.
- After Enter or Shift+Enter, inserting emoji, dictated text or text-expander content no longer moves the cursor into the next block.
- Code blocks labeled
node, mjs, cjs, htmorpatchhighlight correctly after code in the same language was shown in a chat before opening a page. - Bold, italic or struck-through inline code that holds a dollar sign, like
$HOME, stays code when a dollar sign comes before it on the same line. Part of the line no longer turns into a formula when you reopen the page. - Opening a task, or another item whose format has no text body, no longer shows an editor that silently throws away what you type — the body is read-only, and the title and properties stay editable.
- A page containing an out-of-range character code such as
now opens instead of failing to load. - A line that looks like a table divider, such as
| --- |, is no longer deleted when a page without a table above it is opened and saved. - An empty HTML table in an imported page no longer disappears and leaves blank lines behind after the page is saved.
Chat
- Jumping to an unread reaction in a chat now shows the reaction and clears the reactions badge.
- Chat Details now includes links written in messages, including Bao's links, grouped by date. Reposted links keep separate entries for each source message.
- Chats no longer jump when reopened with unavailable image attachments.
Collections & Library
- Hiding a column in the Library's Recent view now hides it.
- The name field of a new inner folder takes focus after its menu closes.
- Property reorder handles stay visible on devices that do not support hover.
Tasks
- Delete tasks, projects and areas from their row menus or with Delete or Backspace, after confirmation. Open projects and areas also have Delete in the page menu.
- Deleting a project or area also archives its contents. Undo or the space Archive can restore them.
Bao
- Creating a skill or custom connector now ensures its type supports saving a text body, repairing missing support when needed.
- Saving a custom connector's description, base URL or credential reference no longer briefly restores the old value.
- Some invalid source references in enrichment results no longer create links to nonexistent items.
- Bao's space no longer appears as an ordinary space, and Bao settings no longer say it is not set up, when the space is recognized after the space list loads.
Sidebar & navigation
- The Favorites row menu no longer starts with a stray divider line.
- Favorites folders can be nested inside other folders again, by dragging or with Move to.
- Middle-clicking New object creates a blank page in a new active tab with its title ready to edit, while leaving your original tab unchanged.
Desktop app
- On macOS, a two-finger swipe past an edge no longer slides the whole app within its window.
- On macOS, when Any runs from a location it cannot update itself in (opened from Downloads or straight from the disk image), the update prompt now asks you to move Any to Applications instead of failing on every retry.
- On Windows, clicking a chat notification opens the chat in the running app and brings Any forward when Windows allows it, or flashes its taskbar button.
- A chat notification is removed from the notification center once you read the chat elsewhere.
- On Linux, clicking a chat notification or its Open button opens the chat and brings the running app forward.
- On macOS, clicking a chat notification now brings the running app's window forward.
Sync
- Page saves now preserve changes from another device or Bao that have already reached the app, even while you have unsaved edits.
- When the wiki or CRM roles were set up on two devices offline, their pages no longer drop out of the wiki or role lists after the devices sync.
- The sync status indicator no longer stays stuck on an error after the object's status has arrived.
Account & sign-in
- Account icons now display the complete emoji when your name starts with one.
Settings
- The notifications switch in Preferences now locks at once when notification permission is denied from a prompt shown elsewhere in the app.
Performance
- Limits memory retained by page undo history during long editing sessions.
- Background chats now retain only their newest 200 messages in memory. Older messages are still available when you scroll back.
- Uploading large files in chats, Files or pages no longer freezes the desktop app.
Other
- A disabled primary button's label stays white in the Dim and Dark themes instead of turning dark.
- A disabled secondary button uses the same grey as the other disabled buttons.
